The Faithful Living Newsletter

Hi Reader,

I returned from vacation a few days ago, and it was quite an interesting trip- so many people from so many backgrounds where we were. We are truly made so uniquely, and that got me to thinking about how our uniqueness is often critiqued rather than celebrated. This was never God's plan.

Here's what I pulled together for you this week...

📍FOR YOUR FEED

A Faithful Approach to Self Care

I created a new page at Fine Natural Hair and Faith that brings together something many of us have had disconnected for far too long: faithful self care that honors both how God made us and how we care for ourselves day to day.

If you’ve ever felt like your hair care, faith, and personal care routines live in separate boxes but long to understand how to connect them, this space was created to help you bring them back into alignment.

You can explore it here:

đź’ˇ FAITHFUL STRAND TIP

Choose hair products based on formulation, not promises.

For fine hair, ingredient concentration matters. When heavy conditioning agents appear high on the ingredient list, buildup and breakage often follow.

Lighter formulas support strength and longevity. Think water and lightweight oils.

🙌🏼 TREASURE THIS

Understanding God's Design

Beauty culture often treats God’s design as if it's flawed instead of simply seeing differences as part of the beauty God has created.

We are often encouraged to try and fix what's "wrong." We are coerced into seeking universal answers for things like: the best product to use, the ideal routine to follow, as if every method should work for everyone.

But God did not design people that way. Creation is intentional, specific, and purposeful.

When that truth is ignored, care turns into correction.

You see it when:

  • Fine hair is treated as if it's subpar to thick hair
  • Products are touted as "for all hair types" (a gentle lie)
  • People are taught to fight their hair instead of learn from it

If the eyes of your understanding are open, then you can see it for what it is. Your hair will communicate to you what it needs clearly when you stop forcing it into systems that were never built for it.

Thickness, density, and strand size are not obstacles. They just require a different set of instructions. When you shift your thoughts about hair care from comparison to understanding, your frustration decreases, and results are improved.

You'll begin to steward your hair care much more wisely. And, here's the thing... It's not just limited to hair or other self care. Everything that God has entrusted to you should be "stewarded" with wisdom. The problem is if you lack it, you won't know what to do.

The first step is to ignore trends and seek wisdom for how you were designed. That's something I can help you with inside The Faithful Strand Academy.

It's a place where we seek the Lord for understanding our true identity. Everything external then falls into place, and something as seemingly mundane (to some) as growing healthy hair begins to align. Check it out here.

🙌🏼 SACRED SELF CARE

True self care isn't selfish. I bet you heard that before. It's true, though. Self care starts with attention, but not in a way that worships oneself.

Noticing what works for your natural hair and avoiding what causes more harm than good is actually an act of stewardship. When your hair (or other self care) is rooted in awareness so it's properly supported, that honor Gods because it respects His design.

I hope you have a very blessed Sunday,

Michelle
