March Theme: Resilience

Hi Reader,

Last week, New York was buried.

Nearly 18 inches of snow fell in a single sweep. It's the kind we had not seen in over a decade; the kind that swallows sidewalks, buries tires, and makes you question every life choice that led you to live somewhere with four seasons.

I thought I was prepared.

Before the storm rolled in, I pulled a cover over my van that I had just received from Amazon the day before. I tucked it tight, secured it down and imagined myself the next morning sipping coffee while everyone else scraped ice and shoveled in frustration.

Yeah. No, that’s not what happened.

By the next day it was ripped to shreds. Torn seams. Snapped straps. It looked like it had been through a small war.

And yet…

When I peeled it back, the van underneath was completely clear. No snow build up. No frozen crust. Not even a thin layer. Clear.

The cover did not survive the storm.

But it did its job. That got me thinking.

Resilience is not about being untouched.

It is not about walking through storms without wear and tear.

Sometimes resilience looks like frayed edges. Like something that did not make it out perfectly intact. Sometimes resilience is simply absorbing enough of the impact so that what matters most stays protected.

The cover failed at being permanent.

But it succeeded at being protective.

And maybe that is the better goal.

Because this month, we are talking about resilience:

  • In your hair.
  • In your habits.
  • In your walk with the Lord

It's not about becoming flawless (as if that were possible).

But, it's about learning how to build something that holds through the storms.

Here's what I pulled together for you this week...

If you keep trying new routines for your natural hair but still do not trust yourself to choose what works, pause.

Not everything is about fixing. Some seasons are about reflecting with thankfulness on what is already present in your life.

đź’ˇ FAITHFUL STRAND TIP

Dryness is not always a product issue. Sometimes it's an order issue.

Water is always first. Then, something that seals it in - even though it's temporary.

If you apply oils to dry hair, you are sealing in dryness. The only other use for them is lubrication, but that comes after moisturization.

Resilience in hair care is not about doing more.

It's about building in the right order so your results last beyond how you feel that day.

🙌🏼 TREASURE THIS

Resilience vs. Motivation

It's easy to mistake motivation for strength.

When you feel inspired, everything seems possible. You may be ready to try things again that once flopped.

You're ready to commit and ready to finally stay consistent. You're motivated.

But motivation is emotional. It rises and falls depending on your energy, your mood, and your circumstances.

Resilience is different. It is structural.

That storm that shredded my van cover didn't care whether the cover was ready. It tested whether it had been secured properly and if it was strong enough to withstand the winds.

That's what pressure does. It exposes what was built in advance.

The same is true in your hair journey and in your spiritual life.

If you are only consistent with your routines when you feel inspired, they will fall apart the moment you get tired or distracted. That doesn't mean you lack discipline.

It means you have been relying on emotion instead of building the habits that bring order.

You don't need another wave of inspiration. You need clarity about who you are and what you are stewarding.

You need steps that remove confusion so consistency becomes the natural outcome, not a forced effort.

There is a difference between trying harder and building differently, moving differently.

I have been working behind the scenes on something that helps you move through this in order. It's not just more information or a random solution. It’s a guided path for faith + natural hair that helps you build in order, so consistency isn’t about willpower. It's about alignment.

More soon.

For now, hold onto this:

Resilience will always outlast motivation.

đź’¬ PAUSE & PONDER

Before you move into the week, sit with this:

When pressure rises in my life, what usually gives first?

Is it my sense of identity?
My stewardship?
My clarity?
Or my consistency?

What would it look like to reinforce that area instead of restarting everything?

If you’d like to share, reply with the one word that stands out most right now:

Identity
Stewardship
Clarity
Consistency

I read every response.

Many blessings,

Michelle
