Reader,
β
It might still feel like summer, but now is the time to start prepping your hair for the colder months ahead. Dry air, indoor heat, and low humidity are all coming, and your strands deserve a head start.
β
This week's newsletter is all about getting ahead of the dryness caused by cold winter weather. It's a pretty in-depth one.
β
Keep reading for this week's edition on what I'm calling The Winter Hair Glow Up.

π‘ QUICK CROWN TIP
β
A Steam Session Secret: Lock in moisture with steam right before applying your leave-in conditioner. This is not just about a hot shower. I mean intentional steam from a handheld steamer, hooded steamer, or even a DIY method like using a bowl of hot water with a towel over your head.
β
The steam gently lifts the hair cuticle and allows your moisturizing & hydrating products to penetrate deeper. Just 5-10 minutes of steaming before applying your leave-in can greatly improve how well your hair holds moisture throughout the week.

π WHAT I'M LOVING THIS MONTH
β
βShe Reads Truth Bibleβ ββ
This Bible is a dream for women who like to intently study God's Word. Every passage is paired with a thoughtful devotional and a reading plan. There are full color maps and charts that bring context to your study.
β
What I love most is the intentional design. Before each book of the Bible, there is one key verse pulled out and turned into a piece of scripture art that captures the heart of the book. With all 52 books beautifully represented, it offers a powerful overview and an invitation to dig deeper into the Word of God. Check it out here: https://amzn.to/4oTPZURβ

β βππΌ TREASURE THIS
Hydration Mapping: A Technique for Sustained Moisture
One of the best winter prep methods is something most naturals skip: Mapping out how your hair absorbs and holds onto moisture by section.
β
This technique helps you to tailor the amount of product used, along with layering it to your hairβs actual needs instead of treating your entire head of hair the same way.
β
Here's how to do it: β β β’ After you wash and deep condition your hair, divide your hair into four or six sections (more or less based on density) β’ Apply your leave-in conditioner and sealant section by section β’ Pay attention to which areas stay moisturized the longest and which dry out faster β’ Note how much product each section needs and where you may need to either reapply midweek or apply more product. For me, the crown section always needs a little more product.
β
To enhance this process for low porosity hair, consider using a gentle source of steam beforehand to help your strands absorb moisture more effectively. A compact hair steamer like this one can make a noticeable difference.
β
This technique will work best before the temperatures drop, so you can get a gauge of your hair's needs. Test it out next wash day and make note of your observations. Here's a hair planner to help you capture it all.

π¬ PAUSE & PONDER
β
Winter is a reminder to slow down and protect what matters. Your hair needs gentler handling in the cold, and so do you. The same way you seal in moisture to prevent breakage, you can also guard your peace to avoid burnout.
β
Here's a Journal Prompt / Reflection: βWhere in your life could you use a little more protection or softness? What do you need to "seal in" this season? (example: peace, rest, joy)
β
That's all she wrote!
β
Start early, protect your hair, and set yourself up for a hydrated and healthy winter season. Your future you will thank you. <3
β
Blessings,
Michelle
