A new way to grow (your hair + faith)

Reader,

I've come to realize something over the years. Most of my progress in both my natural hair and my faith came from small, consistent choices.

Growing my natural hair to my desired length didn’t happen overnight. It took being very intentional with my wash days and all the days in between. It took patience (and that's harder than wash day sometimes!)

Yet, the same is true for my spiritual life, specifically in the area of prayer: real growth started when I committed to learning what God had to say about prayer and then praying in alignment with His Word.

At first glance, the two may seem unrelated. But one thing ties them together: consistency. That’s our theme this week.

The natural hair community can be very helpful. But, it can also be incredibly isolating. Texturism, colorism, and comparison can create a divide that leaves many of us feeling like we’re on this journey alone.

Steady Hands, Deep Roots: What the Bible Teaches About Growth

If there is one thing I have learned from both, my natural hair journey and my walk with God, it's this:

Progress is not always visible, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening.

We live in a world that glorifies speed: microwaved results, instant answers, and overnight success.

But spiritual maturity, like healthy hair, is not rushed. It comes with time - time invested, care, and consistency.

Think about the parable of the sower in Matthew chapter 13 that Jesus taught about. He said:

"A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

The seed that flourished was not the one that sprouted the fastest. It was the one planted in good soil. It was the one that developed roots that could sustain growth over time. Those roots were not easily pulled up.

This same truth applies to your hair journey and your spiritual walk. You may not always see immediate change. But when you remain faithful - caring, learning, praying, and making adjustments, you start building something stronger than results. A steady foundation of Endurance.

That is the kind of foundation we will focus on inside The Faithful Strand Academy. It's not just about hair care routines and product knowledge, although we will cover those too.

The Academy will give you the tools and truth to grow - not just your hair, but your confidence and spiritual resilience. We’ll cover practical routines, biblical encouragement, and mindset shifts to support your whole journey.

The doors open in November.
You can join the interest list now and be the first to know when we officially launch.

💡 QUICK CROWN TIP

Deep condition after every wash, but switch it up based on what your hair is asking for. This could look like adding a tablespoon of olive oil to the conditioner for boosted moisture or a few drops of sweet orange oil + a few drops of tea tree oil to help soothe scalp conditions.

If you’ve been craving a space that nurtures both your hair and your spirit, I hope this week’s message gave you a glimpse of what’s possible.

Your journey does not have to be misaligned. Growth is possible.
Let’s keep showing up one wash day, one prayer at a time.

All my best,

Michelle

Reader, For years, I’ve seen it happen. Women, myself included, start strong in one area of life. We’re motivated, focused, and ready. But then life happens. We get pulled in every direction. We give so much to everyone else. And the things that matter most: our time with God, even something as simple as consistent hair care, quietly get deprioritized. It’s not that we don’t care. It’s that we’re human. And in the middle of it all, that quiet pressure builds. The voice that says, “You’re not...
